Canteen zine was created in response to a brief in collaboration with Intern magazine and NTU student services. The brief outlined that the zine was to be produced with the aim of helping mental health within university students.

Whilst working through the contextual landscape and talking to students themselves, my team and I noticed a reoccurring pattern within contributing factors to negative student mental health. This pattern proved to be the loneliness epidemic.

With loneliness at the core and with adding primary research into lack of non drinking student activities, we decided to act directly on the issue itself instead of just talking about it. For this reason we created a physical community with a zine counterpart.

The Canteen aesthetic was born as a result of insights surrounding revering to childhood, social eating creating friendships and art working as a therapy.
